Important Swim and Dive Information! Please read. Meet schedule attached.

    Hi!

It is time to get started! Welcome to Holy Names Swim and Dive Team, the best team in the entire world! If you haven’t been drinking water, you better start right now.

At this time, we have 89 athletes registered for the team. 59 of you are returning and 30 are brand new to the team!

FIRST PRACTICE: Practice begins on Monday at 2:30 pm at Medgar Evers swim pool. I would like all swimmers and all divers to attend this practice. Divers may be excused early since they have dive practice at Queen Anne.

We will be trying on bathing suits, going over rules and expectations, meeting the new coaches, meeting or reconnecting with each other, and filling out forms. We most likely will not be getting in the water. Dress casually, bring a pencil or pen and something to write on like a bulletin board or book, wear shoes appropriate for the pool or take them off as you enter. You will need to sign in for attendance.

DRINK 8 GLASSES OF WATER TODAY, TOMORROW, SUNDAY AND MONDAY

Swimming and Dryland start Tuesday – bring a once piece swimsuit, goggles (clear are best), swim cap, swim towel, shampoo, water bottle, snack for after practice and tennis shoes and shorts.

TRANSPORTATION: It is up to you to find transportation. I am not allowed to organize carpools but our team captains will be talking to the girls the first day to set up a GroupMe email chat to help with carpools. The bus will start the first week of school and freshmen get first choice of the bus. The Freshmen get the first priority.

SECURITY: Do not leave valuables in your car, even your trunk. Sports areas are often targets for thieves. Do not leave valuables in locker room. We keep our bags on the pool deck. There are lockers available through the pool that can be locked. You must go through the pool for this. I cannot be responsible for any valuables brought to the pool. The school also has lockers that you can pay for if you need to leave a laptop at school once school begins.

RETREAT: Please, mark your calendars for August 23rd! We will have our retreat in the swim pool followed up by field games. The theme is Olympic based with fun team bonding games. I’m sorry for the people on vacation. This was the best time to plan the team bonding for such a large group of athletes.

TEAM SWIM SUITS: Team suits are ready to order through Sylvia’s. I am sending a separate email with directions on how to get into the website to order. It will be a short window to order swim suits. It will close on October 30th! We are using the same suits as last year. We have two styles, one is the Nike Lingerie and the other is the Nike CutOut. The swim suit is black and has the cougar logo in white. It runs around $63.00. Your daughter is not required to buy a team swim suit. You can order your own black bathing suit. It just needs to be a one-piece swim suit with only one logo on it. That means only one Nike logo or one Athena logo, etc. Two logos are not legal according to WIAA rules. No tie-backs and must be modest.

We will have sizing kits the first day of practice on the 20th.

TEAM JACKETS AND CAPS: We will place an order for anyone wanting to buy a team jacket, a form will come out soon. You may also rent a jacket if you cannot afford to buy one. Jackets ran from $40 to $49 dollars last year depending on if you got it personalized. Caps are free unless you keep losing yours (lol). This year the swim caps will be cranberry with a white cougar logo.

Thank you everyone! See you all soon!

Please, note that I have attached our Coaching expectations as well as basic Metro League rules. The athletes will go over these rules on Monday. MEET SCHEDULE is included!

Parents will go over the rules on the Mandatory Sports Night, August 27th.
